Major flats bid for Leicester city centre tipped for green light
A bid to demolish a factory between the Curve theatre and Pheonix cinema in Leicester city centre and construct a six-storey building with room for commercial units and almost 30 flats have been recommended for approval.St George’s Apartment is behind the plan for land in Southampton Street which will be voted on by the city council at a meeting on Wednesday 10 October.If approved, a total of 29 flats will be constructed along with room for three ground floor workspaces.The proposed site is also close to two grade II-listed buildings; Wimbledon House and the former Odeon Theatre, now the Athena.The building currently occupying the land is two storeys high and includes a car park.Previous plans for a nine-storey building with 31 flats were published in 2007 but expired in 2011.
