Major plans to regenerate a section of the world’s oldest international football stadium as part of a significant scheme involving the club, Glynd?r University and the county council have taken a step forward.Wrexham County Borough Council’s executive board met to discuss the proposals, which include a four-star hotel as well as adding a new 5,000 seater stand to Y Cae Ras, The Racecourse Ground on Mold Road, home to Wrexham AFC.The council’s executive board unanimously approved the recommendation to authorise work alongside Transport for Wales and Glynd?r University as well as the football club on developing a new masterplan for the site, a major gateway to the town. The board also authorised officers to secure further resources to aid and enhance the outcomes of the masterplan. As part of the regeneration scheme, the council is also looking to improve transport connectivity between Wrexham General railway station, the town centre and the stadium, with the expanded stadium also capable of hosting international football.A feasibility and sustainability study will be produced for publication this autumn.
