Major student scheme plans submitted for Selly Oak
Plans have been lodged for the redevelopment of the former Sainsbury’s site in Selly Oak, to create an 836-bed student accommodation scheme.GHL (Selly Oak), a collaboration between Galliard Homes and Apsley House Capital, will spearhead the regeneration of the brownfield site on Bristol Road.Designed by Corstorphine & Wright, The Triangle will comprise two six-storey blocks, with 26,000 sq ft of commercial space to include a community medical centre as well as 31 parking spaces. It’s also targeting BREEAM Excellent rating.A mix of units are available, with 56% designated for studios and 44% for cluster accommodation. These plans have been revised after the scheme was originally rejected, based on concerns about its scale and density that would cause significant harm to the character and appearance of the area. The 4,770.1 sq m former Sainsbury’s building has already been demolished ready for development.
