Major Swansea city centre regeneration plans move forward
Last month, it was revealed that Urban Splash was working up proposals for the site in the area of the former St David’s Shopping Centre in partnership with experienced real estate developer Milligan. More investigation works will also soon take place at the site as preparations for plans continue. Now an outline planning application with all matters reserved has been approved by Swansea Council’s planning committee for the former St David’s Centre and other land north and south of Oystermouth Road.Proposals include a multi-storey car park, new arena, up to 13-storey hotel and potential energy centre.A public sector hub as well as a new city office quarter and public open space and public realm are also proposed.Urban Splash is Swansea Council’s long-term regeneration partner for a number of sites in the city centre and on the waterfront.A report considered by the committee said: “This is a significant development within the city centre and would also have an impact on the surrounding area, however, taking into account all the material considerations, it is considered that the proposed development would not have an unacceptable detrimental impact upon the wider environment and that any negative impacts can be ameliorated by the imposition of the appropriately worded planning conditions.”
