Manufacturing facility plans set to get the go-ahead
Plans for a new commercial unit to support expansion and job creation at a South Yorkshire manufacturer are recommended for approval next week (29 February 2024).MTL Advanced Ltd, supported by Stainton Planning, submitted a full planning application to Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council last year for development on a site off Grange Lane.MTL Advanced is a contract manufacturing specialist in the metals sector. It currently operates from a 300,000 sq facility adjacent to the application site.Planning permission is sought for a new manufacturing facility for the company to the east of its existing premises. The proposals comprise a large manufacturing building, with ancillary storage and distribution space and offices. The facility would provide MTL with additional space to manufacture steel for construction industry plant. The plans also include 22 parking spaces and landscaping. It has been estimated that the proposed development would generate about 70 jobs, with workers operating on a duel-shift pattern.A planning statement submitted as part of the application said: “The proposed industrial building would deliver significant economic and social benefits by allowing this existing established and thriving business to stay in its current location, enabling them to expand and deliver at least 70 new jobs.”The application will be considered by the council’s planning board on 29 February and is recommended for approval, subject to conditions, in an officer’s report prepared for the meeting. The report said: “It is concluded that notwithstanding the objections received, the application represents an acceptable form of development on a brownfield allocated residential and is of an appropriate design that would not adversely affect the character or appearance of the locality.”Furthermore, subject to conditions, the proposal would not adversely affect the amenity of existing and proposed residents, would not result in highway safety issues or drainage, ecological or environmental issues.”Objections have been received by residents of nearby properties, with concerns raised over noise and traffic.
