Manufacturing giant eyes third North East site

Plans for a North East manufacturer to open a third operation in the region, in a move which will create jobs, look set to be approved. If given the go-ahead ADM Pressings has vowed to invest £1.5 million in the project. The company is headquartered in Newcastle and has a second site in Gateshead. It has submitted a proposal, which is due to be decided on by Durham County Council on 19 November, to change the use of a vacant distribution unit to a general industrial facility. The 87,510 sq ft property in Spennymoor forms part of a wider commercial and industrial complex known as Enterprise City, located within Green Lane Industrial Estate. The site is accessed off Meadowfield Avenue via an internal estate road which also serves an adjoining Boots distribution centre and the Durham Constabulary police dog training centre. If given the green light, the unit will be ADM Pressings’ third manufacturing facility in the North East and will be part of a £1.5 million investment.Over recent years ADM customers have shown an “increasing interest” in buying higher level modular assemblies which are ready to fit directly. To be able to offer this increased level of service at a competitive rate, the manufacturing company “needs to establish a new facility to accommodate the additional processes required”.The County Durham expansion will create more than 25 new jobs including a senior manager, a chemist, a material scheduler, plant supervisors and maintenance technicians. Also, the facility would allow for an expansion of ADM’s assembly and pack operations that will offer the opportunity for further job creation.
