Massive residential development proposed at Boroughbridge
Planning documents have been submitted to support a proposed 450-home housing development on a potentially historically significant site in Boroughbridge near Harrogate.HOW Planning has been appointed by Cheshire-based Gladman Developments Ltd to request a formal screening opinion on the requirement for an Environmental Impact Assessment regarding a development at Stump Cross in Boroughbridge.Located to the south of Boroughbridge, the site of the potential housing development would be to the east of the A168 and cover 59 acres. The developer intends to build up to 450 residential dwellings with up to 40 per cent affordable housing as well as publicly accessible green space, a village green and land set aside for a community facility. The site is bound by Chapel Hill and Stump Cross Farm to the north and arable land to the east and south and the A168 to the west.It is located 13.1km north east of Harrogate centre, 8.8km north east of Knaresborough and 10.1km south east of Ripon. The housing development would sit close to three scheduled monuments, including a Roman Fort and settlement 1.31km to the north; Aldborough Roman Town 650m north east; and The Devils’ Arrows Stone Alignment west of Boroughbridge. The site is also close to the grade I-listed Church of St. Andrew and according to the screening statement, there is further potential for archaeological assets within the site due to its close proximity to a Roman settlement, fort and road.
