Menehay housing scheme would secure Falmouth Rugby Club’s future
Public consultation has begun on plans to build 230 homes which would secure the future of Falmouth Rugby Club.The club has teamed up with Westcountry Land for the scheme at Menehay Farm.The land was bought by the club for £210,000, with members money with a plan to relocate its ground there several years ago.Planning permission was granted, but the move never happened and the club decided it wished to stay where it was.Developing the land would unlock the funds needed to pay the creditors back and secure the clubs future.Negotiations will also take place with Cornwall Council, which owns the land, to secure the clubs long term future either through a longer lease or purchase of the land.Negotiations will also take place with Cornwall Council, which owns the land, to secure the clubs long term future either through a longer lease or purchase of the land.The hope is other community groups and schools can make use of the facilities as well.A public consultation took place this week about the housing scheme.Westcountry Land is working with Devon and Cornwall Housing to deliver 35 per cent affordable units within the scheme.A planning application for the housing will be submitted to Cornwall Council in July.
