Mixed-use container park nears green light
Plans for a mixed-use container park which would provide commercial and leisure facilities as part of the Perry Barr Residential site could soon be green lit.Steel Life Group Ltd is seeking the go-ahead to erect a total of 86 steel containers within two phases at Galey Park, Walsall Road, with the development being for a temporary period of seven years.Phase one would comprise a total of 14 containers provided before the Commonwealth Games, while phase two would comprise a further 72 provided after the event.Linked units are expected to be available to create larger offerings, stacked as single or double-storey units.External seating areas, including a play area, display screens and associated facilities would also be included.Additionally, ten accessible car parking spaces, 12 service/delivery bays and 16 cycle parking spaces would be provided within the second phase.A statement filed on behalf of the applicant said the units could “consist of offices, retail, bars/restaurants, possibly leisure in the form of a gym as well as potentially education and other civic uses”.The proposal will be reviewed by Birmingham City Council’s planning committee on 7 April.
