More than £7m of funding agreed to improve town centres in Nottinghamshire

A total of £7.6 million has been set aside to make improvements to a number of town centres across the county (February 1st).The funding has been agreed through the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership alongside Nottinghamshire County Council’s £20 million ‘Unlocking Growth in N2 Town Centres’ programme.The funding covers seven major projects across Nottinghamshire and it is designed to improve town centres and create jobs.Seven projects have initially sought funding though the programme such as: Kirkby-in-Ashfield leisure centre and town centre; re-invigorating Upper Bridge Street in Worksop; Beeston Square phase two redevelopment; Arnold Market and Arnold town centre scheme; Carlton Square; Mansfield Old Town Hall and Newark Buttermarket redevelopment.It is hoped the programme will help the towns attract more shoppers and visitors, improve accessibility, create new jobs, bring in new businesses and investment, reduce the number of vacant retail units and offer more attractive places to work and live.
