Multimillion-pound investment proposed for Sheffield hotel
A multimillion-pound investment has been announced to transform a Sheffield city centre hotel with the project expected to provide “a boost to the city’s economy”.Vine Hotels, a national hotel owner, operator and management company headquartered in Sheffield, has announced an investment in its city centre Cutlers Hotel. The company already operates four hotels in the city, Double Tree by Hilton Sheffield Park, Kenwood Hall Hotel & Spa, Mosborough Hall Hotel and Cutlers Hotel, as well as the Whirlowbrook Hall and The Old Rectory events venues. The investment aims to transform the dated venue into an ‘all-suite’ hotel comprising 27 luxury suites, each with a lounge, one or two ensuite bedrooms and their own private kitchen. This is designed to make the hotel ideal for longer stay visitors and guests, whether in the city on business, a longer-term assignment or enjoying the city’s sporting, cultural and nighttime options.Garin Davies, group chief executive at Vine Hotels, said: “There is a clear demand for this type of accommodation in Sheffield. Indeed, our city is well behind other regional destinations in providing this much sought-after type of accommodation, delivered in a high quality, professionally managed environment.”The very central setting of Cutlers Hotel makes it an ideal location for an all-suite hotel, with visitors to Sheffield able to enjoy the wide range of bars, restaurants, theatres, and retail options right on the doorstep.”This type of accommodation also typically brings higher spending visitors to the city, and it’s anticipated there will be a boost to the city’s economy. Not only with this significant inward investment but also with the material secondary spend in the cities retail and leisure businesses.”A planning application for the works is due to be submitted this month (August 2023) with a start on site later in the year and a circa 12-month build programme.Vine Hotels is owned by Greg Dyke (chairman), the former director general of the BBC and former chairman of the FA, and Garin Davies (chief executive), former divisional director of BDL Management and former main board director of Best Western.
