New £22.6m leisure centre takes shape
The first phase of work on a new £22.6m leisure centre is taking shape in Berwick as the steel structure of the new swimming pool completes.The Berwick leisure complex will house a five-lane, 25m swimming pool, a teaching pool, leisure pool and spa facilities, as well as a new fitness suite, cage and reception area.Constructed by Tolent, the site will also provide a new sports hall, indoor bowls and a sensory room. Outside there will be a 3G full-size playing pitch, play park and trim trail and parking for 175 cars. The scheme has been designed by GT3 Architects.The new centre is being funded by Northumberland County Council, delivered by Advance Northumberland and will be managed by Active Northumberland.The new swimming pool and fitness suite is expected to open in summer 2021 and the new centre is expected to be fully complete and open to the public late 2022.
