New build plans for dilapidated school building
Plans are in the pipeline to demolish a “dilapidated” school building in Sefton to make way for a new-build replacement.The Department for Education (DfE) has submitted an application to Sefton Council for the development at The Deyes High School, Deyes Lane, Maghull. The existing sixth form building would be retained.Kier Construction has been appointed by the DfE as the preferred contractor for the design, construction and implementation of the replacement school.Documents submitted as part of the application said the new school will be a ‘net zero carbon in operation’ eight-form entry secondary school for 1,200 pupils.As part of the scheme, existing school buildings will be demolished and a two and three-storey new building erected.Also included in the development would be indoor and outdoor sports facilities, a part-covered six court multi-use games area, external canopies and an energy centre and service compound. Covered cycle parking, motorcycle and car parking, alterations to the site access, hard and soft landscaping, fencing, boundary treatments and signage also feature.A temporary access would be formed from Deyes Lane for construction purposes and the provision of contractor facilities and associated works required during construction.Sponsored by the DfE, Deyes High School will be operated by the Lydiate Learning Trust.
