New Cumbrian housing development work set to start
Work is to set to get underway on a new affordable housing scheme in a Cumbrian market town.Broadacres Housing Association and South Lakes Housing secured permission for the 49-homes development in Sedbergh from Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority.The homes will be built on land at Station Road, on the western outskirts of Sedbergh, near Queen’s Garden. There will be a mix of two and three-bedroom houses and two-bedroom bungalows, as well as three four-bedroom and one five-bedroom home.Of the 49 homes built, 34 will be for affordable rent and shared ownership, with people in Sedbergh and the surrounding communities being given first refusal on these properties. The other 15 homes will be for open market sale.The construction is being led by EQUANS, the new name for ENGIE’s regeneration and services-led business in the UK.On completion, the affordable homes will be split between Broadacres and South Lakes Housing. Each property will be allocated two car parking spaces.The total cost of the scheme, which includes grant funding of £1.2m from Homes England, is £11.5m.Work on site is expected to start late spring/early summer.Completion is scheduled for September 2023.
