Plans have been submitted for an additional building at the Alwoodley campus of The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) to provide new accommodation for the school’s youngest pupils.GSAL has about 2,050 pupils from the ages of three to 18 and was created in 2008 through the merger of Leeds Grammar School and Leeds Girls’ High School (LGHS).The school’s main campus, Alwoodley Gates, housed the boys and girls from Year 3 upwards, while children from nursery to Year 2 were accommodated in Rose Court Nursery and Pre-prep in Buckingham Road, Headingley, in a converted building that was previously part of LGHS.The school now proposes to bring all its pupils together at Alwoodley and, through planning and design consultancy Barton Willmore, has applied for planning permission for a new nursery and reception building.Further plans will be submitted next month for alterations to the existing school buildings to accommodate Years 1 and 2.The proposed development will not only provide a new educational environment for all GSAL pupils, it will also release a school building in Headingley to help meet the need for school places in Leeds.
