New mixed-use plans for former foundry site

New plans have been lodged for a former foundry site located to the south of Leeds Dock comprising almost 250 homes and commercial units.Citu (Climate Innovation District Phase 2) Ltd, supported by ID Planning, has submitted a full planning application to Leeds City Council for the former Hydro Aluminium Foundry site, which lies between Clarence Road and the River Aire and opposite Citu’s Low Fold scheme.Planning permission was previously granted in October 2016 for a development of 204 homes and about 10,700 sq ft of commercial space as part of Citu’s Climate Innovation District. Landscaping work have been undertaken following this approval.The new application seeks consent for 246 homes and about 8,500 sq ft of commercial space suitable for retail and leisure uses.The scheme would comprise 114 one-bed, 69 two-bed, 26 three-bed and 37 four-bed properties, with 17 affordable housing units.Homes would range from three- and four-storey houses, to five- and ten-storey apartment buildings.In January, Citu secured a £19m loan from Ingenious Real Estate Finance to fund the next phase at Leeds’ Climate Innovation District (CID), comprising 120 new apartments and houses.
