Just a year-and-a-half after the first swimmers took to the waters at the Leys Pools and Leisure Centre another brand new leisure facility is on the way to Pegasus Road.An existing multi-use games area (MUGA) is set to be refurbished for Oxford City Council to the tune of £300,000, which includes a ‘3G’ pitch and extra parking.Members of the council’s planning committee are expected to vote in favour of the plans at a meeting tonight in the Town Hall.A total of £272,000 will be spent on the site and £27,000 on the parking spaces. Work on the site will involve replacing the surface of the MUGA with new 3G artificial pitch, with strands resembling blades of grass covered with sand and rubber crumb. New 4.5m high ball-stop fencing will be erected around the perimeter, replacing a “dilapidated” fence, with new hard standing areas around the pitch for goal storing.Six high-energy floodlight masts standing at 8m tall are also set to replace the existing four. A total of 41 more car parking spaces will be added to the existing overflow car park to the north of the leisure centre on ‘BodPave’, a plastic paving grid with grass growing in between.
