New museum of speed set for approval
Plans for a new Museum of Speed complete with a 42-bed eco hostel, outdoor events space and new exhibition are poised for approval after they received a recommendation from council officers.The current Museum of Speed at Pendine Sands in Carmarthenshire, the venue for five successful world land speed record attempts, was built in the 1990s.The beach hosted record attempts in the 1920s before being used as a firing range by the Ministry of Defence.The new museum, the “Sands of Speed Museum” as well as a 13-room, 42-bed “eco lodge” are projected to provide £3.3m boost to the local economy directly and indirectly per year, with 60 jobs created on-site.
