New phase for Liverpool connectivity scheme

A multimillion-pound scheme designed to make Liverpool easier to navigate is set to enter a new phase.Liverpool City Council’s contractor GRAHAM is completing work on the first element of the initial package of works for the £45m Liverpool City Centre Connectivity (LCCC) scheme. Having begun on Victoria Street in February, it focuses on re-engineering major routes from the waterfront and commercial business district through to the retail and knowledge quarters.The second phase will cover five main parcels of land.At Moorfields, new pavements, kerbs and carriageways will be installed by the end of July 2019 while on Victoria Street, the bus stops and new pavements will be removed.At the City Bus Hub in Old Haymarket, 12 bays will be completed with City Coach Park on Riverside Drive will also expand.Finally, a host of works will take place at Brownlow Hill on the east side of the road between the intersection with Mount Pleasant and Great Newton Street.The remaining packages will see a remodelling of both Lime Street and the Strand, as well as new bridges across Canning Dock.The LCCC scheme is being supported by a £38.4m grant from the Local Growth Fund with city council match funding of £8.7m.
