New plans for Transporter Bridge site
Newport City Council has lodged an application for £10m to redevelop a site beside the city’s transporter bridge.The bridge can be seen from many points across the city with its huge metal structure and the gondola used to carry vehicles across the River Usk is now open for the tourist season.Plans include a new visitors centre.The council bid for funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund is up against projects from across the UK, with no guarantee of success.
