Pall Mall scheme set to move ahead despite objections

A £200m community earmarked as being the gateway to Liverpool’s central business district looks set to move forward.Pall Mall is being brought forward by a joint venture between Kier Property, CTP and Liverpool City Council and is designed to be a vibrant space for workers, residents and the community to use.The old Exchange Station site off Pall Mall is set to be transformed into 400,000 sq ft of offices alongside retail and a hotel, all centred around the green square.The plans will see the existing Bixteth Gardens redeveloped and replaced, which has caused some controversy in the area.Proposed is a series of remediation works designed to prepare the site for future commercial development. These would last about 17 weeks.Three ward councillors – Nick Small, Sharon Sullivan and Christine Banks – oppose the application on the grounds that there is “limited space within the city centre and this site serves as an oasis for apartment dwellers and the community of Marybone”. A further 62 letters of objection from residents and those who work in nearby buildings were received.
