Peel unveils plans for £500m Bury site
Up to 3,500 new homes have been earmarked for the site in Greater ManchesterRegeneration developer Peel L&P has released proposals for a £500m, 3,500-home development in Bury.People living in Radcliffe and Bury will now be asked for their opinions on the plan for the site near Elton Reservoir. The development is identified in the Places for Everyone (PfE) plan being worked up between nine Greater Manchester districts (Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan) to create jobs, new homes, and sustainable growth in the City.Nick Graham, Peel L&P’s associate director of planning, said: “After spending years carefully developing this vision alongside the PfE plan, we are delighted to share the proposals for land west of Elton Reservoir which will provide much-needed new homes, transport, leisure and recreational facilities, and economic investment to Radcliffe and South Bury.“Our plans will help meet the longstanding shortage of new homes in Bury and deliver highly sustainable homes that are rich in character, as well as energy efficient and cost effective to run.”The homes are planned to be highly energy efficient, and should include affordable properties, as well as homes to buy or rent for families, first-time buyers and downsizers. Also included in the proposals are retirement and extra care living properties.Open space, parkland, leisure and nature uses, health facilities and new primary schools are all part of Peel L&P’s proposal.Graham added: “With the water and parkland at the heart of our vision, the community will be well-connected to nature with better access to the beautiful reservoir surroundings which will provide a range of health and wellbeing benefits.“We are still at an early stage of the process and are keen to hear what local people think. This is the first of multiple stages of consultation and the feedback we receive will be taken on board as our plans progress.”Peel L&P is the regeneration arm of the Peel Group. Last month, it was announced as the chosen developer for a 278-home, 31-storey tower block in Liverpool.
