Permission sought for 15-storey tower block
Proposals to bulldoze homes and create a 15-storey tower block and small park in a town centre are being consulted on.Planning permission has been requested for the Ogilby Housing Society site off Wellington Street to demolish 25 flats in five low rise blocks and create a new single block ranging in height from eight to 15 storeys.The scheme for 124 new homes, including 28 with three bedrooms, was drawn up by BUJ Architects for company Welling Road LLP and includes a ‘pocket park’.The site is part of the Love Lane development area which includes the Tesco store and Woolwich Centre civic building and the wider Thomas Street Masterplan – both of which were originally drawn up by award-winning architects Allies and Morrison.Plans are for one block cascading in height from an eight-storey baseline next to the Woolwich Centre to 15 storeys on the western side of the development.It is also highlighted that the scheme would open up new pedestrian routes from Wellington Street to Grand Depot Road and Love Lane.The statutory consultation was launched on Tuesday, December 1 and the comments must be made in writing to the council by Tuesday, December 22.
