PHE gets green light for Harlow campus
Public Health England (PHE) has received planning permission to create a new health science campus in Essex, which could employ 2,750 staff by 2024.The new facility in Harlow will bring together existing PHE sites in Wiltshire and North London, as well as its current headquarters in the capital.The outline planning application was given the go-ahead from Harlow District Council earlier this week (13 December 2017) with detailed plans to follow. The decision follows a £400m capital injection into the project by the government.PHE Harlow will be built at a site previously owned by GlaxoSmithKline at their New Frontiers Science Park on the Pinnacles Industrial Estate.Preparation of the site is expected to begin next year with building work and phased construction expected to begin in 2019 and 2021 respectively.
