Pipeline Framework: Information Windows
A pipeline has been launched for Information WindowsThe contract start Date is 4.9.2017. Approach to market date is 22.5.2017.1.1. Bus Infrastructure Development is seeking to appoint a Principal Building Contractor and a Designer / Manufacturer to work in partnership to carry out the full design, manufacture and installation of new accessible information windows and counters within existing bus stations in London. The aim is to complete three installations over a year period. This will mean that the stations with existing information windows that it has identified as problematic to a significant number of customers will be upgraded with new ones which are fully accessible to all of our customers by summer 2020. This runs in parallel with Transport for London’s corporate aim to make all bus stops and buses in London fully accessible.1.2. It is not only the physical dimensions that determine good accessibility levels but also the visibility, legibility, audibility and detailed tactile qualities. Security aspects must also be taken into account as our staff, on occasion, are subject to some challenging behaviors from our customers.1.3. A key benefit that this project will deliver is design consistency of a high quality at the principal point of face to face contact with our customers. The windows are a major contributor to the improvement of the overall customer experience and the business will benefit if they are all brought up to a quality that follows the same performance principles and design standards. This current project follows on from the successful recent installation of eight new accessible windows and counters across major stations on the bus network.1.7. The preferred procurement route is to appoint a principal contractor who will subcontract a window / counter manufacturer and work in partnership to cover all aspects of the project from site surveys, design, manufacture, building control applications, site set up, pre-start demolition & strip-out, preparing openings, window installation, electrics, decoration, finishing, commissioning and handover. The window and counter is a specialist component that needs to be manufactured off-site in a factory, transported to site and coordinated with the installation works by the main contractor to programme and work seamlessly with the associated building works. This is a potential opportunity from the government, and the pipeline gives advance notice of an opportunity that might be offered by the public sector in the future – allowing potential suppliers to plan accordingly. When a public sector organisation publishes a pipeline notice, it does not necessarily mean that an opportunity will be offered in the future. For more information contact: Transport for London, Palestra 10th floor, 197 Blackfirars Road, London SE1 8NJ.
