Plans have been submitted to build a new gym just outside Nailsworth.Applicant Rob Burgess, who currently owns the Reebok CrossFit Glevum in Quedgeley, has submitted a planning application to create a similar facility at the Inchbrook Trading Estate in Woodchester. The proposed development in Stag House, which lies just off the A46 Bath Road, would see an industrial unit converted into a new gym and leisure facility. The building is currently vacant and was previously occupied by boutique wine business Woodchester Valley Vineyards. This new gym would have two full time staff and four part time staff, and has around 6500 square foot of space available for equipment.Mr Burgess said he would intend to enter into a long-term lease with the site owners and has “have every intention to develop a sustainable and flourishing gym that contributes to both the employment and health of the community”.The application located at unit S2A, opposite The Dye Cottage, also includes room for 12 car parking spaces in the area. This was an issue for Minchinhampton Parish Council, who have objected to the application on grounds of “insufficient parking”.The council raised concerns about users of the gym being put in danger by moving lorries and forklifts. The site is 1.5 miles from Nailsworth and three miles from Stroud.Nailsworth currently has two gyms – Nailsworth Strength and Fitness and Forest Green Rovers Gym.But some have suggested that if and when FGR moves to its new home at Eco Park, near Eastington, this will leave the town with just one gym.
