Planning bosses give nod to revised city centre student accommodation scheme
Plans for a student accommodation scheme on Carmoor Road in Ardwick have been approved by Manchester City Council after the scale of the scheme was significantly reduced. The plans were brought forward by Tiger Developments on behalf of its sister company Host Student Housing. The scheme will deliver 172 student bedrooms, which will provide a mix of 137 modern, cluster bedrooms and 35 self-contained studio flats. It will adjoin the existing student development, Brook Hall, off Upper Trinity Street.Following consultation, Host reduced the scale of the development to ensure that the revised plans do not impact the adjoining West Indian Community Centre or its ongoing operations.Host Student’s managing director John Nesbitt said: “We are delighted that members voted in line with the officer’s recommendation and approved our plans for new, high-quality student accommodation in Manchester.“Our plans will help to meet the ongoing need for purpose-built student accommodation in Manchester and will provide students with a safe, secure and conveniently located place to live as they embark on their time at university.“We listened carefully to the feedback received from residents and the wider community prior to submitting our application and are pleased that our revised, scaled-back plans have been approved by the council today.”
