Planning submitted for £22m transformation of Plymouth estate

Clarion Housing Group has submitted its planning application to Plymouth City Council to transform the Barne Barton Estate in Plymouth.Clarion Housing Group has submitted its planning application to Plymouth City Council to transform the Barne Barton Estate in Plymouth into a sustainable and vibrant community with lasting social, economic and environmental benefits for all.The application comes less than a year after the Group formally announced its intention to progress with its regeneration proposals following enhanced investment and regeneration in the area and the support of Homes England and Plymouth City Council.The ambitious plans, which have been developed in close consultation with residents and the Council, will regenerate what was once the largest Naval estate in Britain and originally built for the MOD back in the 1960s.The overarching aims of the proposals were to change the layout of the Estate and improve the views; provide new homes for families and older people; create opportunities for home ownership and enhance the community spaces. Crucially too existing tenants who wish to remain on the Estate will be rehoused.Masterplanning has been undertaken by Exeter based, Clifton Emery Design and the project has already been awarded ‘Building with Nature Candidate Status’, in recognition of the scheme’s approach to high quality green infrastructure.
