Plans for 229 homes in Newbury Racecourse set for green light
Plans to build 229 homes on land adjacent to Newbury Racecourse have been recommended for approval.Construction group David Wilson Homes originally sought permission for 289 homes, however following a consultation, it amended its proposal to include only seven apartment blocks. The site is located to the east of the redeveloped stadium complex – the western and central areas surrounding the venue are already residential, with the applicant having previously built there.Objections were raised amid concerns over a loss of privacy and increases in noise, while supporters of the proposals outlined the need for housing in the area. The benefits are said to outweigh the negatives – West Berkshire Council has been recommended to grant permission for the application – it will make its final decision next Wednesday (19th June).
