Plans for 275-bed Manchester hotel set to advance

Plans to build a distinctive 275-bed hotel near Manchester Piccadilly Station look set to be backed next week with the application considered to be capable of improving the overall quality of the area and establishing a “sense of place”.The venue would cover 110,000 sq ft across 13 storeys on the corner of Adair Street and Great Ancoats Street. The Fattal Hotel Group would operate it under the Leonardo Hotel brand, with an opening lined up for 2021.It has been designed to feature a striking design, with greenery adorning the exterior of the building. It would also include extensive public areas, with a restaurant and bar spilling out onto a new public square.The deal is part of CAPITAL&CENTRIC’s wider vision to transform the growth area around Piccadilly Station. The regeneration specialist is already on site at the nearby Crusader Mill, which is being restored into apartments reserved solely for owner occupiers.The company has stated that the scheme would help revitalise the area and support up to 100 jobs once operational.A report to Manchester City Council’s planning committee – which is due to meet on 19 September 2019 – said: “The proposal would improve the overall quality of an area, establish a sense of place, promote a high level of sustainability, is visually attractive as a result of good architecture, would raise the standard of design in the area and would optimise the use of the site.Approval has been recommended.
