PLANS for a fifth student housing block on a road in Bournemouth’s Lansdowne area have been submitted.Developers Stonehaven Holdings and Fortitudo are applying for outline planning permission from BCP Council to build a 13-storey building at 17-23 Holdenhurst Road. The block would contain 408 units of student accommodation, and nearly 500sqm of commercial floorspace would be created on the ground floor for shops. The plans are at an early stage, and further permission will be sought for other aspects of the development such as appearance, landscaping and layout. The proposed student halls would replace a pair of semi-detached two-storey buildings, currently used as a florist and restaurant with flats above, as well as another building at the rear partly used for offices.According to the planning application, there is a “clear need for new housing that is established in both national and local planning policy”.There are number of student accommodation blocks along Holdenhurst Road, including Lyme Regis House, Kaplan Living Bournemouth, and Dorchester House.A new housing block off Station Roundabout is also near completion. Belaton House is one of two developments being delivered by the Student Housing Company. The £23m Belaton House will provide 399 bedrooms and the £31m Bailey Point in Lansdowne Road will house 550 students. Both blocks will be opening in the new academic year this September. The proposed new development for Holdenhurst Road would be accessed from Lansdowne Mews, and space for 27 cars would be provided at the rear of the site, according to the planning application. If the plans are approved, developers would submit a further application for reserved matters.
