Plans for job-creating manufacturing facility lodged
Detailed plans have been lodged for an advanced manufacturing unit at a North Yorkshire business park which could support the creation of hundreds of jobs.Caddick Developments, supported by Quod and The Harris Partnership, has submitted a reserved matters application to North Yorkshire Council for development at Scarborough Business Park.Planning permission is sought for the phased construction and expansion of a manufacturing, research and development building, with ancillary office space, associated storage and distribution space. The facility will be occupied by Schneider Electric, which is currently based at a nearby facility on Cayton Low Road. The first phase of development would comprise 179,972 of space, with a 145,313 sq ft warehouse, 32,884 sq ft of offices and a 1,776 sq ft plant area.A further 40,000 sq ft of warehouse space would be created in Phase 2.The plans also include a car park with a total of 270 spaces, service yard and landscaping.Schneider currently employs 312 staff and it has been estimated that an additional 219 jobs would be created as part of the Phase 1 development. This rises to a net additional 369 jobs as part of the combined Phase 1 and Phase 2.A planning statement submitted as part of the application said: “The new facility will enable Schneider to relocate from their existing premises, which are constrained in terms of both business growth and carbon reduction ambitions, helping to retain their investment in the town.”The new facility will enable Schneider to expand their business, meet their sustainability objectives and generate over 350 new (net additional) jobs.”The development will strengthen Scarborough Business Park as a strategic and successful employment destination, benefiting North Yorkshire Council, helping to achieve the significant growth aspirations set out in the adopted Development Plan.”Outline planning permission for the wider Scarborough Business Park was granted in March 2006, covering a range of employment uses (B1, B2 and B8), car showrooms, hotel, ancillary retail and associated works.
