A planning application has been submitted for a new 20-storey, 350-apartment development on the site of a former textile factory in Leeds.Under the proposals from Gold & Amber, two sites on Shannon Street will be redeveloped into 350 apartments, complete with car parking and public realm. The ten- and 20-storey buildings, which have been designed by Leeds-based Brewster Bye Architects, will have commercial space on the ground floor. The development will also include a resident’s gym, common areas, entrance plaza and greenspace. The site is currently occupied by a car park, with several low-level commercial buildings, which will be demolished. Prior to its current use, it was home to the former Shannon Street Mills textile factory dating back to the early 1900s, The Woodpecker Inn and terraced housing.Gold & Amber is currently involved in several other high-profile developments, which have also been designed by Brewster Bye, that neighbour the site, including Leeds City Village, which was unveiled earlier this year. This scheme would comprise more than 1,000 new homes as well as a mix of commercial, leisure and amenity space at the former Marsh Lane Goods Yard. The Shannon Street scheme was presented to Leeds City Council in pre-application form in September 2018.
