Plans in for 200 Baltic Triangle apartments
A 200-apartment scheme could soon be built on a former industrial plot in the Baltic Triangle area of Liverpool city centre, with the team behind the proposals claiming that “the only realistic option for the future development of the site is to redevelop it for housing/mixed-use”.Applicant Songbird has submitted a full planning application to Liverpool City Council to construct a seven-storey block and a linked nine-storey block on a cleared site bounded by Blundell Street, Kitchen Street and Simpson Street that is currently used for parking. It is proposed to create 79 one-bed apartments, 109 two-bed apartments and 12 three-bed apartments across the complex alongside 116 parking spaces. There would also be 4,273 sq ft of retail/commercial space on the ground floor of the blocks fronting Blundell Street and Kitchen Street. According to a planning and regeneration statement by the Planning Studio, it is hoped that a “significant part of the proposed ground-floor units can have a period of marketing directly for creative industries” prior to being made available for traditional retail uses although this cannot be at the expense of empty units if demand is not forthcoming.
