Plans in for food hub’s next phase

Plans have been submitted for the next phase of a landmark food manufacturing and distribution campus in Derby.SmartParc SEGRO Spondon is seeking reserved matters approval for phase four, plot five of the SmartParc development.Outline planning permission was granted in May 2021 for the redevelopment of previously industrial brownfield land, which was occupied by Celanese, to provide about two million sq ft of floorspace for facilities for food production, distribution, training and education, associated food support businesses and supporting energy generation/waste disposal.This latest phase comprises a single building to be subdivided into 26 units across ground, first and second floors, depending on future occupier’s requirements.The until, extending to approximately 137,000 sq ft, is positioned along the eastern extent of the site, with a service yard and secured bin store to the north and parking area to the west and south.It would be accompanied by 279 car parking spaces, including eight accessible bays, 56 EV charging bays and seven motorcycle bays.A statement lodged with Derby City Council on behalf of the applicant said: “The proposal complies with the conditions attached to the outline planning permission and is not contrary to the relevant policy provisions of the Statutory Development Plan and National Planning Policy Framework.”
