Plans in for historic warehouse student conversion
A derelict 19th century warehouse building on a key route into Huddersfield town centre could be converted to provide student accommodation if newly-submitted plans get the go-ahead.An application has been submitted to Kirkless Council for alterations to the Excelsior Works building on St John’s Road to support its conversion for residential use.The building forms part of a continuous frontage of stone built warehouses dating from the 1800s. It was previously designated as commercial use but is now derelict.The application proposes the conversion of the building to provide a total of 51 one- and two-bedroom apartments.The lower two floors will provide 33 individual bedsits while 18 duplex apartments will be created above, including bedrooms on a mezzanine floor within the roof space.
