Plans in for hundreds of homes at major South Yorkshire scheme
Plans have been lodged for more than 450 homes in the latest phase of a major residential development in South Yorkshire.Barratt and David Wilson Homes, supported by JRP, have submitted a reserved matters application to Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council for the development of parcels 4A and 4B at Waverley.Planning permission is sought for the construction of 451 homes on the 28-acre site.A mix of one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom properties would be provided, with detached, semi-detached, terraced and apartment units. A total of 149 homes (33 per cent) would be affordable housing. The plans also include a pedestrianised promenade along the western bank of Lake Waverley. The development has an estimated construction value of about £68m and is expected to support a number of jobs during the build phase.A planning statement accompanying the plans said: “The proposed development will deliver much needed new housing to a sustainable location. This will make a positive contribution towards the local housing objectives in respect of housing needs and demand.”The new housing development can provide a number of substantial economic and social benefits to the Waverley New Community and Rotherham.”In July, Harworth Group announced it had competed a £29m land sale of a site to Barratt and David Wilson Homes, representing its largest-ever serviced residential land sale by number of plots. The homes will represent Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ fifth phase at the site and will be situated adjacent to both Highwall Park and the Waverley Lake.In total, Harworth’s plans for Waverley comprise up to 3,890 homes, shops, restaurants, a primary school, leisure and community facilities and 310 acres of open space.
