Plans in for major Brighton student village

Proposals to knock down a number of student accommodation buildings in Brighton to make way for a new scheme with almost 2,000 bed spaces are set to be given the green light.Under the plans for the University of Sussex West Slope site at its Falmer campus, Park Village will be demolished along with Lancaster, York, Kulukundis and Kent Houses.Currently, the development provides more than 850 bed spaces for students.The new scheme will feature 23 buildings ranging from one to six storeys high and will provide 1899 beds, including 20 family units.The development also comprises a new health and wellbeing centre, a library, retail, restaurant and cafe space and new landscaped spaces.The application is set to be approved by Brighton & Hove City Council’s planning committee later this week (20 May 2020).Final approval is subject to a section 106 agreement. The terms of the deal include the installation of an artistic component and a contribution towards the local employment scheme.
