Plans in for mixed-use scheme that could be ‘gateway’ to city centre

Formal plans have been submitted to Nottingham City Council for a major city centre mixed-use scheme.As we revealed in March, Fusion Students wants to build a multi-use development called King Edward Court that would house 568 students, 96 residential units and ground floor commercial space.The scheme is being designed by Corstorphine and Wright.The site is on the junction of Glasshouse Street, Lower Parliament Street and King Edward Street and currently houses a number of office buildings with surface parking.A statement from the developer said: “Our proposals would regenerate this key site, providing a building of high-quality to act as a gateway to the city centre. Our plans for a highly-sustainable development will include student accommodation, a mixture of commercial and retail spaces on the ground floor, as well as open market and affordable housing to help meet local need.Fusion Students is proposing the student accommodation be eight storeys in the south east of the site, and then the building steps up to nine storeys towards Huntingdon Street to form the residential part of the development.It is hoped that the building will be completed by the summer of 2024.
