New plans have been submitted to build a 25-megawatt (MW) energy-from-waste plant on a site in East Yorkshire. If approved, it has been estimated that the development could create 25 full-time jobs.Heat Recovery Solutions (HRS), on behalf of Solar 21 Renewable Energy, has submitted an application to East Riding of Yorkshire Council for a development within the existing Melton Waste Park.Solar 21 has developed a similar project at Tansterne, near Hull. HRS, the agent, designer, builder and operator of the proposed new facility, was also responsible for this scheme. The proposal is for the construction of an energy recovery facility in a dedicated compound on the site. The plant would be capable of generating 25MW of electricity of which 22MW would be supplied to the National Grid. The plant would be in operation on a continuous basis, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The applicant has estimated that the development will create 25 full-time roles, as well as supporting 100 skilled manufacturing jobs and 150 construction jobs.It could also help the local authority to meet environmental and waste management targets, and save 10,000 lorry journeys each year.Melton Waste Plant is operated by Transwaste and currently processes about 120,000 tonnes per annum.Planning permission was previously granted in 2012 to Thermeco (Yorkshire) for a smaller plant on the site. However, the applicant said this scheme was no longer viable.
