Plans in for redevelopment of brewery buildings
Plans have been lodged for the redevelopment of two grade II-listed buildings on the site of a former brewery in Llanelli to provide new residential units. The Pobl Group, supported by Asbri Planning and Powell Dobson Architects, has lodged plans with Carmarthenshire Council for two buildings on the former Buckley brewery site. The maltings building and the adjacent barley kiln building are the last remaining original buildings on the former brewery site, following the demolition of the other structures. The buildings, awarded grade II-listed status in 2007, were built between 1850 and 1855. They provided the malted barley for the brewing process of Buckley’s beer until the brewery’s closure in 1998. Both are now said to be in a dilapidated condition. The proposals cover the conversion of the existing maltings building and barley kiln, to provide 18, one- and a pair of two-bedroom residential apartments together. Six three-bedroom, new-build residential properties will also be built.Eight parking spaces will be created to serve the apartments, with another three for visitors. A further six spaces will be provided for the townhouses, together with six garages.Grwp Gwalia previously secured consent in 2014 for the conversion of the buildings for residential and commercial use.
