The proposed redevelopment of the former Pleasure Island theme park in Cleethorpes, including new holiday lodges, hotels and a discount supermarket, have taken a step forward with the submission of a planning application.A consortium of developers including Lidl GB Ltd, YPG FAB 2 Ltd, Seaside Getaways Ltd and Church Lane Humberston Ltd have submitted a full planning application to North East Lincolnshire Council for the redevelopment of the 54-acre site off the Kings Road, which has been vacant since 2016.The plans include 272 holiday lodges, a 148-bedroom hotel with conference centre and casino, and a 74-bedroom hotel with bar and restaurant. Also proposed are a new Lidl discount foodstore, two food and drink units, leisure and retail units, a drive-thru coffee unit, fishing lake, parking and cycle hire facilities. The leisure unit is expected to be operated by an arcade game business.A planning statement accompanying the application said the development would represent a build cost £65.9m. It would generate an estimated 113 full-time equivalent (FTE) construction jobs per annum during construction; up to 497 FTE jobs once operational and; generate additional visitor expenditure in Cleethorpes of about £18.9m per annum. The report added: “The scheme represents a sustainable form of development which would bring this strategically important site back into productive, economic use and, in doing so, help support the designated Resort Area of Cleethorpes.”A public consultation on the plans was launched in November 2022.The project team includes Lichfields, SMR, Projex, Rees Denton, OS Ecology, Elliot Consultancy, Weetwood, Bryan G Hall, One Environments, Humberside Materials Laboratory, Sirius and NJD Environmental Associates.
