Plans in for redevelopment scheme in Ascot

Outline plans have been submitted for the residential redevelopment of a waste transfer station and recycling facility in Ascot.Family waste and recycling business Shorts Group has operated from the successful yard at St George’s Lane for more than 60 years.However, according to planning documents filed with the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead, the size of vehicles servicing the waste transfer station has become much larger, and the scale of the operation at the site has increased, resulting in a significant number of HGV movements along St George’s Lane, Ascot High Street and the surrounding road network.Shorts Group is therefore proposing to relocate its existing business and redevelop the site at St George’s Lane to help meet local housing needs.The applicant’s vision is to transform Shorts’ Yard into a “beautiful and sensitive addition to the Ascot area”. The scheme envisaged incorporates up to 131 dwellings with associated access, parking, open space and landscaping. Existing buildings and structures would be demolished with the land to be reprofiled.The current application is only concerned with access to the site.Founded in 1957 by the late David Short, Shorts Group provides a range of services, including skip hire, plant and tool hire, trade waste management and recycling, and demolition throughout Berkshire, Surrey and Hampshire.Professionals working on the redevelopment project include John Simpson Architects, Boyer, Tristan Fitzgerald Associates, Peter Brett and Philip Cave Associates.
