Plans lodged for 200-home development

More than 200 homes could be built as part of a major development in South Yorkshire if newly-submitted plans are given the go-ahead.William Brookes Education Foundation Trust and the Knox Trust have together submitted an application to Doncaster Council for a site south of Alexandra Street in Thorne.The 17.6-acre site currently comprises undeveloped scrub land and is located to the north west of the town centre and close to Thorne North Railway Station.Planning permission is sought for a total of 207 new homes, as well as with parking, infrastructure and public open space.A mix of two-, three- and four-bedroom houses would be built, together with one-bed apartments. About 54 affordable housing units would be provided.There would be 263 designated spaces for residents and 29 visitor spaces, with 2.7 acres of public space.A planning statement prepared as part of the application said the proposed development would generate, “substantial investment, job creation direct and indirect spending in the local area, strengthening regeneration of this historically important town”.The applicants have been supported by DCH Consulting, Isle Design Architecture, Access Ecology and Mott Macdonald.
