Plans lodged for holiday village developments
Plans have been lodged for a series of developments at an East Yorkshire holiday park designed to improve the accommodation and boost the region’s tourist industry.Lichfields, on behalf of Haven Leisure, has submitted an application to East Riding of Yorkshire Council for development at Thornwick Bay Holiday Village. The park currently comprises 91.4 acres, including 1,144 static caravan pitches, 222 touring pitches and 28 chalets.Planning permission is sought for the removal of some existing caravan pitches and chalets at the site to be replaced by new pitches. There will be a net loss of 47 pitches.Other works will include construction of a new boat house, car parking, access roads, landscaping and infrastructure. A new nature reserve, featuring public open space and water bodies, would be created on land to the east of the park. The proposals are designed to improve the general appearance of the park through the upgrade of pitches and moving caravans away from the heritage coastline. The new accommodation is also expected to “positively contribute to the local tourism industry”.The works form the first phase of a wider masterplan for the park, with improvements to be made over a ten-year period.Bourne Leisure operates more than 50 holiday sites in the UK through its subsidiaries Butlins, Warner and Haven. The group acquired Thornwick Bay in 2015 and has made a number of investments, including improvements to the Welcome Building, restaurant and bar, and the indoor swimming pool. The park currently supports about 200 jobs, generates an estimated £5m spend in the region’s economy and benefits suppliers in the region by about £500,000.
