Plans lodged for nearly 600 homes on agricultural land
Plans lodged for nearly 600 homes on agricultural landA site on the outskirts of Scunthorpe could accommodate nearly 600 homes if planners agree.A full planning application has been lodged with North Lincolnshire Council for the major scheme at Lincolnshire Lakes, off the M181, by developer Keepmoat, supported by nineteen47.The proposals are for 599 homes on a 62-acre site, which is currently in agricultural use.Properties would include two-to-three-bedroom houses, along with three-to-four-bedroom family homes, across a mixture of detached, semi-detached and terraced properties and bungalows. There would also be open public space and a new lake. All the homes are proposed for sale on the open market.A planning statement accompanying the application explains: “The proposed development is capable of being delivered in full, or at least significantly so, during the current five-year period and will therefore make a significant contribution towards the existing [housing] shortfall.“The development will also result in the creation and maintenance of publicly accessible natural green space, including a lake, landscaping and a play facility on the site, which will be accessible to existing residents and the general public.“It will help to meet economic objectives through job creation during the construction phase of the development, with other indirect jobs also being created as a result, including in terms of contractors and suppliers.“Once completed the additional population generated by the development will help to support existing shops and facilities in the locality, helping to ensure their viability and helping to indirectly create new employment opportunities in the retail and leisure services.”
