Plans lodged for new Kelham Island apartment building

A new landmark building of almost 100 flats could be created on a site at Kelham Island in Sheffield under newly-submitted proposals.The plans cover the second and final phase of the Great Central scheme, following the approval of the first part of the development last year.Coda Planning has submitted an application to Sheffield City Council for a site on the corner of Chatham Street and Mowbray Street at the gateway to Neepsend.The site, which is currently empty, was originally occupied by a series of Victorian terrace houses. These were demolished in the 1950s and it most recently housed a day-care nursery and an inn.The proposals cover the construction of part four-, five- and six-storey building comprising a total of 92 flats. These would be a mix of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments.A commercial unit with associated parking and landscaped resident’s courtyard are also planned.The building has been designed by Coda Architecture for property developer Knight Knox.
