Plans outlined for 3,000 acre solar farm

Renewable energy business, Boom Power, wants to build a solar farm on nearly 3,000 acres of land in East Yorkshire.Its East Yorkshire Solar Farm project is proposed for agricultural land located between the villages of Brind, Wressle, Willitoft, Spaldington and Gribthorpe.The company says the proposed solar farm would allow for an anticipated export of about 400 megawatts of electricity, helping to meet the country’s demand for low carbon energy.The facility will connect to National Grid Drax Substation enabling the electricity to go directly into the National Grid transmission network.If approved, East Yorkshire Solar Farm will increase Boom Power’s portfolio of projects, both legacy and in development, to more than two gigawatts across the UK and Australia.A non-statutory public consultation for the proposed solar farm will run for 28 days between 3 October and 30 October 2022.More information about the project including details on drop-in events, a consultation brochure, feedback form, and joining instructions for webinars can be found online at: A statutory consultation will be held in spring 2023, prior to an application for a Development Consent Order in late 2023.Mark Hogan, founder and director of Boom Power, said: “We are committed to working with the local communities around our sites.“We want to listen and learn from them as we develop our proposal for East Yorkshire Solar Farm.“An Environmental Impact Assessment is underway and we are exploring options for sheep grazing on the land, to ensure continued agricultural use.”
