Plans outlined for major Darlington housing project

Plans have been outlined for a major residential development in Darlington set to provide almost 450 new homes.Homes by Esh and Darlington Borough Council are seeking the go-ahead for the construction of 449 family homes, located to the west of Neasham Road.If approved, the scheme will lead to the erection of a mix of two, three and four-bed properties, with 65 per cent of them allocated for affordable housing. 305 of the properties have been applied for in detail, while the remaining 144 are proposed in outline.Homes by Esh and Darlington Property Services are splitting the provision of the detailed homes, while the outline units are intended to be offered to a registered housing provider, which will be chosen at a later date.Measuring approximately 57.7 acres, the application site is located to the south of the Darlington to Middlesbrough branch railway line and has historically been used as agricultural land. The proposals involve the demolition of an existing farmhouse and outbuildings on the site to allow for the construction of the new homes.It is expected the development will support a number of direct construction jobs, as well as indirect jobs in the local supply chain.
