Plans revealed for 200,000 tonne energy recovery plant
Plans to build an energy from waste facility capable of processing 200,000 tonnes of waste on land between Cardiff and Newport have been revealed.The site will be capable of producing up to 15MW of electricity and will also be able to export heat should local off-take be identified, with 25 jobs to be created.The scheme is set to be decided upon by Welsh Ministers due to its scale. A scoping report has been submitted to Cardiff Council on behalf of the applicant, Môr Hafren Bio Power by GP Planning.If approved, the scheme will be delivered by German engineering and technology provider, Standardkessel Baumgarte, which has worked on a variety of sites in the UK, Europe and further afield.The built scheme will include a 20m turbine, a £46m boiler parapet and a 70m stack, although the final design is yet o be determined.
